Things you need to be aware about IMU CET

IMU CET is referred to as Indian Maritime University Common Admission Test. This is a standard test that is conducted by Indian maritime university for students to be admitted on to their admission courses and this includes BBA, research and post graduate programs. Candidates need to be part of the counselling process an avail an opportunity to study at the IMU campuses.

IMU CET exams are conducted a couple of times in a year. In the month of December the exam is held for the sponsors and currently for the DNS course only. It is beneficial if you attend the IMU CET training class as you will obtain hands on grip of the exam patterns. The one that is held in the month of May is for B. SC natural science, B Tech Marine engineering and DNS.

As compared to the month of June the number of applicants in the month of December is less. Another pointer about the exam in December is there are a few colleges that do not participate in the counselling session than in May or June. So you have to be careful whether you are looking to limit your options or not. In addition the centres of December are less when you compare it to the month of May.

The eligibility pattern for the exam is formulated in such a manner so that anyone can sit for the exam. Even the eligibility criteria is the same for all the UG courses.   •  B Tech Marine engineering introduces students to the concepts of ship design, fluid dynamics and marine explosion. Once you graduate as a marine engineer, you can grab a job in a ship as a fourth engineer or an assistant engineer. The employment can in be in Indian or foreign ships.
  • When it is for BSC Job openings are available in both the public and private sectors.

Coming to the eligibility for enrolling in the course the students should have passed 10+2 from any reputed board. They need to be competent in Maths, Physics, English and Chemistry at the same time. A minimum of 60 % marks in aggregate is required with 50 % marks in English.

IMU CET syllabus

Pretty much like the eligibility criteria of other exams, it consists of subjects which the students are familiar, and for them it is easy to go through them. But no one you can say that the exam is an easy one to attempt as you need to stay hard for it. In a lot of ways it follows the similar lines as prescribed for class 11 and 12 CBSE board exams.   • Aptitude- If you have practiced logical questions this is an area where you can score high marks. Distance, direction and percentage questions or the ones that includes simple interests. Based on age and relations you will come across numerous questions as well. So as to cover this there is no need to purchase any books as most of the study material can be found online.

Coming to the core subjects of the exam

  • Maths- this is a portion of the exam that you should try to remember the most. Not because of the reason that it has a lot of questions but because you can score efficiently
  • Physics- After Maths physics is the subject that you should lookout the most as it may be tough at times and preparation is the key.
  • Chemistry- as compare to the core subjects chemistry can be easy since basic questions are ask. Even it can turn out to be high scoring.

The common mistakes that students make when they prepare for the exam

After going through the above information you may be thinking of preparing for the exam. Enrolling for IMU Cet training should be the first step as part of your preparation. There are some common mistakes that are make by the students and it is better that you do not succumb to them. 

You could have gone through online reviews or checked with your friends on whether the exam will be hard or an easy one. A common thing is that no exam is going to be easy if you limit your preparation just because someone told you to do.

The exam is all about speed, and it would be a disaster. If you stick to a question for a prolonged period of time. When you are preparing it would be better if you concentrate on English and Aptitude, as both these segments can be highly scoring. As far as the core subjects are concerned give more time to Physics and Maths since they have more questions. If you are familiar with the formulas you can really score big.

Take some time to read the questions and you should not hurry too much as you may miss out on the logical questions. The best books for preparing are NCERT as it covers the syllabus properly. If you require some extra material you can choose the NCERT Pathfinder, or choose study materials from other publications. In the market you may come across a lot of books related to the subject but hardly a few of them are worth buying. You need to work on your concepts first, set up a foundation and then work towards your speed.
